Everyone knows about the effectiveness of the Elise driving lights.. They are perfect use in the dark, but also if you want to say "Hey! I'm here..." to the driver of the car in front of you, they're splendid!

So what's the need of modifying them? Well.... Tuning Concept and Lotus Ecosse are selling a new type of driving light.. It contains a lens instead of just a reflector, resulting in a denser (HIGH POWER!!) beam of light thrown in front of the car.. :) Even more light... and as they say "more is better :)"

They do have one downside however, the electrical connection is a bit different from the original.. :( No need to worry though, you can modify the connection in a very easy way!

The new driving light is on the above left picture, you can see the little Omega shaped lens holder in the middle of the actual lamp.

At the right, you'll find the parts coming from the old (probably broken ;) driving light. If you try to fiddle in the driving light with the front clam on the car, you don't want to disconnect the little white connector. (it's behind a rubber bush in the crash box and you'd need veeery long arms to reach them..

What you need to do is to remove the old driving lights first (clamshell removed is the easiest way, there are thow with chinese hands that do it with the clamshell on the car.) Unscrew the black cap (right pic above) and disconnect the yellow and brown wire. The assy will stay on the car and the actual lamp can be removed.

The above picture at the left is the place where the cable enters the black cap. The original manufacturer used some liquid plastic sort of material to isolate the cable entry from the outside world.
You can break this material from the cable pretty easy. Just move the cable from left to right and vice versa untill you feel the material snap off the plastic. Try to pull gently, you'll see that you're able to pull back the yellow and brown wire.

Pull the wire back from the cap untill it hits the connectors, then cut it. Check the isolation of the wires. I've seen one cable where the wire was cut, if so, cut the wire at some place just below the opening in the isolation.

If everything works well, you should be having the wire with the little white connector only. (Or, when done on the car, you should only see a black wire with the small brown and yellow wire).
Now, you need to attach so called "faston"connectors to the wires. These can be obtained from Halfords or a big petrol station or so.
If you can get hold of a good shrink tool, I'd advise you to shrink them on the wires, if not, solder them to prevent from working loose!

In the above (left) picture, you can see the bottomplate of the new driving light with the recetables for the connectors. Slide the connectors on and... THEN THERE WAS LIGHT! :-)

Now, for those that want to do the chinese hands act... On the picture at the right, you can see the red arrows pointing at the fitting points of the lamp. These are the screws that needs to be removed so that you can get the lamp out of the base plate... Beware of the paint in the clamshell... there's a fair chance to damage that as well..
